God no! German input usually leads to improved functionality at the expense of the intangible 'it' factor, or soul. Would I want a German influence in my spyder? God no, I'd rather put up with it's undoubted flaws; flaws which give it that unquantifiable '******** tingle' which adds to the excitement when I open the garage door on a Sunday morning. Don't get me wrong, the Germans make exceptional cars (I have two) but, IMO, they don't make cars that I would want to buy for those special occasions.

Absolutely! The Italians call it character whilst the Germans, and Japanese, call it unreliability! However, the Germans and Japanese lost. ;)

....and the french only won because they were on our side!

Not sure I'd want an Italian beside me in the trenches. But boy they make beautiful cars.

Fair comment. However, the Germans and Japanese didn't have too much success in the trenches either.

An Italian comrade in the trenches would be more concerned about how they looked dead than fighting for their life!

IMO, the french did neither.......is what I would have said if I wanted to offend our french friends, which I don't. ;)

This line made me really laugh:

"gear-shift paddles that have all the satisfying mechanical feel of a zucchini".

Just couldn't justify spending that money on a four-pot, two seater. Plenty have though so Alfa must be doing something right.

As for the Italian bravery debate, the world's first NAVY seals, the Italian Decima MAS and their Raid on Alexandria makes for interesting reading.

I wasn't suggesting replacing Italians with Germans...just 1 or 2.

A car with soul and personality could still be reliable and well finished!!

Come on, wouldn't it be nice for the Alfieri to be a class leader......not some other flawed, nearly, could've been, just about, Heart over head near miss.

Cheers Wattie

Heard one of these for the first time on Monday and surprised me how good they sound for a 4 pot..
