Probably not what your after but from a personal perspective the best car I have had for comfort, ride, economy and power that ate the miles was my trusty Alfa 1.9 JTDm GT.
Virtually drove itself.
Geoff, you’ll be surprised to hear I’m not gonna disagree.Total agree with you my Alfa GT JTDm was awesome. Would often do 50mpg. As I had it remapped it shifted as well.
Well I have had the best yet
Brugge to Rouen eco driving as I have time 61 mpg personally I put I down to me servicing the car but it does amaze me for its size.
My old range rover sailed through another MOT yesterday , it's a comfortable old bus that laughably has a sport mode on the gearbox, all it does is change the gears faster , doesn't go any faster, it is massive though, a fiat 500 was parked behind it at the mot station, looked like I was towing a lifeboat

Ouch , the mustang was 2k year one but it was in the price of the car so I didn't actually have to take 2k in the post office , this year is £140Love my old Range Rover and as long as I don't do too many miles I can live with its thirst. It will be coming to Ireland with us but the costs will just increase as road tax is over €2k per year
TBH a Merc would be the ideal solution. MB are the only car manufacturer whose mpg claims more or less match the real world and generally they are higher than others. My missus has just bought a Merc A200d and what a 'pocket rocket' !... and she's getting over 60mpg out of it on a reasonable run. Fantastic economy for long journeys.OK. It's almost certainly been asked before, and I doubt I'll get clarity but here goes:
Looks like I'll be hammering up and down to Nottingham rather more than I anticipated. It's only 125 miles each way but the traffic can be rubbish and we're looking at 2h30m each way. Without traffic. Thursday / Friday was 5.5h in the car. Add a trip to Luton today and it's more like 7 hours driving in 3 days.
Apart from anything else the fuel costs are distinctly unpleasant.
My target is still to be in an MC or Strad before August 2020.
If I'm honest I'm not going to do anything until I know what my new package (oooerr) is but I see a few options:
- Re-spray and fettle the GT and sell (roughly 18k) to clear the finance an buy something cheaper
- Plough money into the GT and run it into the ground.
- Anything?
Assuming go for 1) What do I replace the GT with? My personal fave currently is a Jag XF. Whatever suggested needs to be:
Fast (at least in a straight line)
Pretty imposing
Not so bad on the running costs
Comfortable.
QPV fits 1 and 2, and maybe 4
Audi perhaps?
Not massively keen on BMW or Mercs but...
I throw myself on the mercy of the forum.

Well it's still going and 87k when I bought it from AndyK for the princely sum of £950 and now this

Nice one Andy.....you have done more miles in her in a year than Liz did in 4 I think. Great to hear she is still going.
Two glitches with mine
Cheers
- The brake pad sensor keeps firing. I am led to believe that this is due to a frayed cable.
- One of the courtesy lights keeps going on and off. @philw696 any thoughts?
