You may already be aware of this new law in France for drivers. See below link on FCO.Gov.

You need to carry a Breathalyser in your car and also watch out for dodgy eastern europeans who want to rob you !

Suggest you drive with wearing high viz and a triangle dragging behind with a brethalyser in your mouth

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/france1#roadtravel

If in doubt don't stop to help unless you're 100% sure or driver is Haley Berry lookalikey :)

Bl00dy fogs are trying to cut their budget deficit buy not supplying police with breathalysers !
Why do you need a breathalyser if your teetotal ? another waste of money imoa :(
Looks like we'll have to have chevrons on rear end soon !

Do you need more than 2 and when are you supposed to use them? Surely if you need 2 - get bladdered - use one - decide to drive anyway- get stopped by the rossers then get done for drink driving and only having one breathlyser.
At what point do you replace them?

I looked at this and the law is that you need 1 working breathalyser in the car. The recommendation is therefore to carry 2 so that you can use one and still be legal, however the obvious answer to me is to buy one and then never ever use it. That's unless you particularly want to start testing your own breath on occasions, in which case buy enough to see you through. This is similar to the law about hi-vis jackets - the law is to carry one (in the cabin, not the boot) but the recommendation is to carry one for everyone in the car. Personally I don't feel I need them, so carry just one so we're legal.

According to the research I did, while the breathalyser thing becomes a legal requirement in July they have stated they won't enforce it until November. And they're very cheap to buy in France (a couple of Euros each - so I'm told).

Cheers,
Ben.
