I went in 86 to watch Bell in a 962 battle the new Jags. Fantastic spectacle but it’s so much more than a race. Best described as French Glastonbury with racing instead of music. It's a brilliant week of cars and carnage. Once you've been you want to go every year!
I’ve only been around 5 times but I just realised that your square in La Chartre is where we always go on the Friday afternoon for a drive out from the campsite and a pint and a bite!I went in 86 to watch Bell in a 962 battle the new Jags. Fantastic spectacle but it’s so much more than a race. Best described as French Glastonbury with racing instead of music.
35 years later and I’ve only missed the 24H twice (divorce hearing day set by 1st wife on the Friday….she knew how to hurt me!) and COVID in 2020. With the Classic events also, have attended over 40 events.
So obsessed I bought a property opposite the HdeF in La Chartre and a GT40 to park at the side of it so I can play at being John Wyer.
Arrived back there this morning and it feels like I’m home again!

I see that Dario Franchitti is at the Hotel this year with friends, he's a nice guy if you see him about. You can't miss them, he's in his Daytona Spyder with friends in a 250 GTO (yes indeed, the one that's often filmed driving around in London) and a 250 GT California Spyder. All blue cars.
Here you go...amazing stuff....
All that money and they still can't park!
I take it you have the GT40 with you?Mr Bell has just arrived to have a Beer or 2 with us before checking in View attachment 89441
Not this time. I broke it at Snetterton a few weeks back. Humble Cayenne this year but in truth it’s a much better choice for the 500 mile journey between our homes. The 40 is no GT despite the name…. Hot, noisy and no noticeable suspension travel.I take it you have the GT40 with you?
I understand it will be a killer journey, but cool as **** when you get there !Not this time. I broke it at Snetterton a few weeks back. It’s coming for def for the 100th anniversary in 2023 and parking it down the alley by the side of the hotel where all they AM, GT40 and 917 teams were fettled during they Wyer era when he was here every year from early 50’s to 1973. His presence is felt everywhere. Photo is of him in the bar of the Cheval Blanc in 1958 which is the place I now ownI understand it will be a killer journey, but cools as **** when you get there !
Has to be worth the pain

He can afford to take a ding out thenI think you'd park your $50m masterpiece in two spaces too....
