Nasty side damage.........otherwise very doable

P

New rear quarter £3,400 and B post £450 frank , Rear suspension needs re lining up and probably rear wishbones as they tend to snap with the slightest sideways impact , Front is probably headlight and bumper and possibly wing , at £2400 for a wing i'd want them to have a bloody whole weeks work trying to repair it first , looking at it i reckon that would go back with a bit of experience and welding , being cautiously prudish under £10K shouold do it , best bit unlike the massers the rear quarter has joins so the whole car doean't have to be painted just the replacement parts

Oh for a small midweek lottery win tomorrow

What do you think it will go for Loz?
late 60s to early 70s is what I have in mind...but I could be a mile off.
Regards,
Enzo.

Surprising Enzo , after the last 430 going for what it did, may well hit the £60K mark tho really working on the Pav they set £45-50K more work to this one , but the rear quarter is surprisingly cheap at £3400 plus vat and easier than 4200 to swap out , its the rear axle/suspension that would need severe scrutinization before purchase in my mind , front is real easy , and that wing is almost definately repairable as is without removal , so bumper and headlight most probable ,

be interesting to watch

The front's not bad, but that rear axle looks as though it's had a right clout, expensive job with the bodywork on top.

Makes it look better...Sorry never warmed to these......

Would you spend 70k on a repaired car....?.......When you think what you could get for the money think I would prefer to get a different model....612...or something different all together that hasn't been damaged.....It must be hard to sell a car of this value thats been repaired...

Disagree Andy...it's not about spending 70k on a repaired car...once repaired (to a good standard of course)
it will be worth a lot more, just look at the market values of others, yes it will be less than a non repaired one.
One other point...why is it acceptable to have a classic that is 'repaired' or rebuilt but not a modern car?

See your point Enzo...

Not saying it right or wrong Andy...everybody has a choice, and I'm happy about that...
some people look at it as an opportunity to get into something they may not necessarily have done so,
others would not want the 'stigma' attached to their purchase...
the cold hard facts are that it is made of metal and other materials which can be reconstructed,
the only reason it is a 'writ-off' is because of the cost invloved in putting it right.

I thinks Enzo its because classics are in short supply , therefore ie people take the opposite view and commend you for returning what was deemed for the crusher back to its former glory and back on the road , yet when you do it with a modern car people take the opposite view and look down their noses at you double standards in my book , for me its personal , it would allow me to get into something higher end that otherwise i wouldn't be able (or not prepared ) to borrow money for, tight yes and i hate losing money on cars , at my age im not going to change tack now

Very interesting point there Enzo. I wonder how many people are driving around in repaired cars which came close to being written off but the repair costs were deemed acceptable? There is no register for repaired cars, so people pay full price possibly without ever knowing. I would prefer to own a Cat C/D car with a documented repair and proper inspection than a car which was damaged and repaired without anyone needing to tell a prospective owner. Enzo, I think you have gone about your 550 in the right way - completely open with plenty of pics (and receipts!) to reassure any future owner of the car's provenance should you ever come to sell.

Thanks Mark,
First and foremost was to get her back on the road using OEM parts and re-built to as high a standard as possible,
as safety is the number 1 factor...my intent is to keep her for a long time, but as you say, having the photographic
and documented record will reasure a prospective buyer of what has been done.
It won't appeal to everyone, but I can live with that :D
