I hate to admit it but i suspect a lot of the pub talk refers to the 3200 as we do seem to have more problems. However the 3200's are also generally older and i know my car is starting to suffer from old age rather than design issues. And if you are wondering about reliability my car is now 13 years old looks like new and runs perfect (most of the time :)) There are regular case of cars getting up to 90k on the clock so they can be driven regularly. 4200 definitely cured a bunch of bugs with the 3200 earlier cars. I would say from the forums here i seem to think F1 pump can be an issue, and the 4200 shares the suspension with the 3200 and the ball joints are troublesome ,and expensive to replace (£450 a joint), and i am beginning to think this is down to the joint covers perish so its easy to check. They don't rust particularly, and the engines and gearboxes are pretty tough generally. The engine being stressed i would not agree with, its seriously hard work stressing one of these cars, so most of the time it is more or less idling.
I would echo the comment made above if you don't desire one of these after driving it in a way that your head can't stop then its probably not your car. I have owned one for 6 years now and i can't get rid of it no matter how awful it is some times. Having said that i have never been stranded at the roadside it always got me there, and i still smile when i open the garage, come on it's a Maserati!

I like the comparison of the zing of a double espresso drunk fresh at the bar of a small Milanese cafe versus that simmering poisonous sludge in a glass jug that Americans in diners seem happy to call coffee.

The former extracts the most from the beans without stressing things, but a bit of pressure and heat certainly livens things up and the end result gets your heart racing. The latter...it's all in the name :

"Drip" coffee anyone?

I've been to about three countries who actually know how to serve coffee and the US is certainly not in the list. For me it is

1) Italy
2) Portugal - When you go ask for a "Bica" which is their take on an Espresso and it is every bit as good as the Italian Cafe.
3) Spain - Their take on things like Mitado and Cortado are imo very nice...

I've run RS4's (B5 and B7) and M5 Touring and Maserati's will not be any more expensive in terms of parts and general running costs. Do it, you will enjoy it so much more than the German Marques and they are just very different cars.

Because you have a twin turbo now you might want to get into a 3200 as that delivers power very similarly to a modified (MRC or MTM) B5....

Let me know if you want to drive mine as I'm not too far away from you.

Contigo! Of course, yes I remember you there on SRS.
The Maserati has been hovering in my radar for far too long so I think it's time to venture in.

I'm leaning towards the 4200 or QP at the moment but a sit in and ride in any similar Maserati would be great! Newbury? that's not too far away really.

Another 4200 popped up on Auto Trader today but its got some sort of body kit on it, euurrrch. Right colour combination though.

avoid body kits like the plague.

Ah yes the F1 pump aka the pump that powers the fancy hydraulics on the gearbox and clutch, yes thats a "weak" point. Or rather it appears that the relay that controls it is. The relay fitted as standard appears to be under-rated and prone to failing in the "on" position. When that happens the pump runs all the time and burns out. When the engine is running you can't hear the pump running, if you're "lucky" it fails and you hear it when parked.

Preventative measures? I've heard of two - one is to find the uprated relay, personally I couldn't be bothered. The other is to replace the relay regularly, I did mine at the service. Easy DIY, relatively cheap, lots of peace of mind. Or get Catman to get his finger out and build a solid state relay instead.

Fixes? If the pump goes it can be expensive but I suspect some enterprising person has found either a way to get them rebuilt or a cheaper part from an Alfa.

I do wish Matt would set up a wiki for stuff - much easier to find stuff than search than all these posts! :)

A big warm welcome to the forum Mike...good luck with your search..
Thank you, I think I might like it here. I must be patient and not rush into anything

What I have decided is that it's the 4200 Cambiocorsa that I want and in a certain couple of colour combinations. I'll find one, no nasty body kits though.

I have had my 4200 cc for 6 months and done 6k. The clutch is the weak spot but cost will be less than the RS4.

My car is a Spyder but I live in Silverstone so if you want to come for a play please do.

Absolutely! What are your plans this weekend, sorry, that sounded far too desperate. PM if preferable.
I'm out in the Morning but I have all Saturday afternoon and all Sunday free.
