We have taken the view we would rather gain repeat business for the future than rip people off this year.

C we are only a B and B but we have a lovely statement room https://www.plas-esgair.co.uk/rooms/the-japanese-garden-room and will obviously do you a deal. I am nervous our place isn't special enough for what you want but putting the offer there as a non rip off option!

That's terribly kind of you! Really appreciate and it looks lovely.

I think we're pretty much sorted for a week in North Norfolk cos we know it, it's comfortable and we'll enjoy ourselves.

Tried for dinner at Morston Hall for our anniversary, but no chance (in fact we tried several Michelin starred places and they seem to be booked for ages!) so just going back to The Red Lion in Cromer <shrug> Decent food and reasonable prices.

Next year we will be going big. That's my 50th and our Silver that have been disruppted.

Still, impact to us has been minor compared to many many others....

The Black Boys Inn Aylsham and The Buckinghamshire Arms at Blickling are excellent if you find yourself that way.

My Kent coast holiday cottage is advertised and booked through Niche Retreats aka Original Cottages and the weekly rate hasn’t gone up much at all this year. It has been fully booked from April into the autumn. About a quarter of the bookings are repeat guests who came last year too. I’d rather keep the price steady so I don’t lose my regulars, who are all lovely people and are careful with the house.

All the guests have been eating out at local pubs and restaurants, it brings in a lot of revenue for the local economy. I don’t think these businesses have bumped up their prices either, otherwise they’d lose all their locals. Maybe the honeypot destinations like Norfolk and Cornwall can charge whatever they want, but places like Kent and Sussex are a popular but cheaper alternative. We have the most sunshine here too (but not today, it is peeing down).

As one who takes at least 80% of my holidays here in the UK I have only seen modest price increases in the destinations I go to.

Given the extra cleaning etc I think it is reasonable - Of course summer and school holidays are always far more expensive, at times triple the cost of staying in the same place on the second week of Jan.

But supply and demand will always dictate price.

Most places were booked up after the second lock down, so all that was left was large and pricey offerings.

Chris can't believe you haven't been to Spain ??
Northern Spain or exceptionally beautiful with Great food and hotels.
One of the best trips ever that we did in the Boxster in 2019.
Still can't beat France though :)

Of course you can beat france, the Germans did in in 1940. However, I have to say france is a really nice country, to travel through on the way to where you want to visit. Tbh, if it wasn’t for the battlefields and Le Mans I wouldn’t have a reason to go there. Horses for courses I guess.

You’ve watched the Harry Hill Movie, then? I think it’s one of the funniest films I’ve seen. We do have other delights down here, vineyards, good pubs, the Cinque Ports etc etc.

No but I stayed at a bed and breakfast nearly 20 years ago when I did some work at London Lydd Airport. It's now the Captain Howey. We did find some nice places to eat, even back then.
