This afternoon we thought that Benny had turned up in an ultra-rare 3200 Spyder, but no, that fragile beast remains a myth...

Friday 13th bit me on the a55 today. It looks like the regulator/rectifier has blown on my spyder. It started playing up a few days ago but was generally behaving itself. Today, on a rather spirited run across to Arnage, it didn't; the voltage fluctuated between 12 and 16 with the red light going on and off. On the way home it was charging at 16.2 at idle and with any revs it was off the scale to well beyond 17. I managed to coax her back to the house and by the time we got there the battery was too hot to touch, the case was bulging and it sounded like a kettle as the gasses vented under pressure. Three hours later it was still hot to the touch and it must have been very close to exploding. Unfortunately, it will have to be recovered to the UK and I am trying to sort that at the minute. Friday the thirteenth strikes again. Bollox.

So sorry Ian to hear that.........but she got you there, you had a few great runs, indeed many more runs than most of us put together, still, you're not completely stranded and all will be fixable when you get back!!!

Cheers Frank. Dem and Stu (a mate of Matts brother Martyn) got to experience her capabilities and they seemed to be reasonably impressed! Such a shame we won't be able to tear up the countryside with MAF and Matt on the way back but sh!t happens and she will live to fight another day so it could have been much worse. C'est la vie!

Ar5e! Sorry to hear that, Ben. I had an old V12 XJS pack up on me at Le Mans and feel the pain. Hopefully the repatriation will be quick and easy. Enjoy the rest of the trip, even if it is about 140dB less raucous.

Sorry to hear that Ian, if anyone can get one to Gamston airfield by 8am, I will chuck it in the aircraft and fly it in for you.

Thanks mate but it's a bit more involved; the alternator needs changing which is a bit of a pig as the inlet plenum has to come off, the battery needs changing and the wiring and fuses need checking as everything got really, REALLY, hot. We could smell hot battery acid in the cockpit and it wasn't very nice!
