But it has great road presence. If you see one coming up behind you, you will notice it.

Soo much presence Ian...Agree, every time I see a GTR going or parked I have to go and have a look...The back just looks so aggressive........................But I realy do not think you can compare it to any Maserati..two very differnet cars.....First Maserati do not build a new car that could be compared to it.....Price wise there is a massive difference.........2nd hand they are the same as a GS but again build for two different types of customers as far as I could see.........Sounds like most on here admire what Nissan has done with the GTR but wouldn't buy one.........

Absolutely. Chalk and cheese. However, dynamically, the GTR is streets ahead of any Maserati but like I said, they are soulless; Japanese consumer items more in the mould of Evos and Imprezas, albeit much better. I would like to run one for a while but I very much doubt I would sell my spyder to fund it.

I loved it!
No other car can touch me, i was overtaking in little country roads 2 or 3 cars at once and it was so quick it felt safe doing so
The interior feels plasticky and quality of buttons were straight from a 12k Juke but this is only a 70k supercar brand new!

Two totally different cars, made and owned for different reasons, at least according to my personal, humble opinion. I'm not particularly smitten with the design of the GS, and I consider the GTR to have lost too much of its heritage from the Skyline GTR's, so I'd honestly settle for my current setup (3200 GT and R34 GTR) instead. That doesn't, however, mean to say that they're not both amazing machines, and both in their own ways. Still, if I had to make a choice between them, I'd go for the Maserati every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The GTR is a force of nature while the Maserati is a divinity.

Yes, but Maserati are putting together, a new car, with twin turbo V6. Lighter, faster, and certainly, more a Cayman R beater, then a GTR. But we shall see.
GTR is a technical tour de force, with one of the best AWD chassis, ever produced. Its like buying a top fashion suit, then getting a suit made at Saville Row. The fashion suit is the in thing, but the made to measure Saville Row Suit, is timeless. And thats a Maserati. Timeless Italian Godess!!

like has been said, you cannot compare the nissan to the maserati.but credit must be given to it,after all the initial design and build phase of the engine, was done here in the uk,well in northampton to be precise.

So what are the thoughts on playing with the GS?

Chuck in a Novitec supercharger (with modified ECU's), upgrade to APRacing brakes, fettle the suspension as needed to cope - £20K budget over a good £30K GS and voila, a wolf in a lovely italian suite.

Follow the Maserati racer, for a guide to mods. Engine would need the compression ratio, dropping to allow for supercharger. But a supercharger, will only beef up the bottom end torque. So, let it blow into a turbo, just like the Lancia S4 did!
Drop some weight off the car, with lighter panels etc, then we have a real beast!

Novitec figures show a rather impressive increase in bhp as well Andy. Yes a supercharger is bound to add low end grunt, but to say it has no other benefit is surely misleading if well integrated?
