Been in contact with Robin (team GCR) re a northern meet , before its been held in Rugby , which has been fine except the first time when the Chef closed the kitchen due to a an exploding flueroscent tube,

Robin has recently taken over the running of a quaint Pub ideal for a meet details of which ....www.theploughatboddington.co.uk

Ideally situated in Northampton i think it would make an ideal monthly future events meet, equiverlant to the southern Ace Cafe meet but for our Northern contingent

perhaps our first meet to be arranged by discussion here and a monthly date set there after ( of course flexible ) thoughts please , personally i think it a good idea to help a fellow forum member kisck start his new business venture

regards loz

Unfortunately not far enough north for me, still a 200+ mile round trip.

A lot closer than Ace though so I'd try to get to a meet every so often.

Great for everyone in the Midlands though and as Loz says it would be good to support a members new business.

To be fair the OP says Midlands / Northern, but yes the argument holds true and given the regularity of meets in London and in the Midlands, it's not unreasonable to hope something be organised in the proper northern-lands.

Where would suite best? I'm happy to organise it and so that it doesn't get confusing I'll start another thread.

Hi,

I will look forward to welcoming you all here and it will be a good chance for me to get more involved with the forum too.

Obviously we are quite well located for some forum members but for those who do want to come from further afield we do have rooms available for Bed and Breakfast. Friday and Saturday evenings we can offer parking in a secure compound (my business partner in Team GCR owns the garage next door where they service and restore classic and sportscars) and we are close to loads of places to visit (Silverstone 15 miles, Leamington Spa/Warwick 18 miles, Stratford on Avon 24 miles, Stow on the Wold 25 miles, Bicester Village 27 miles, Oxford 33 miles etc.,..) too make the trip more worthwhile. I will obviously be giving preferential rates to forum members both at meets and at other times.

We have five real ales, four on pump (Deuchars IPA, Directors, Bombardier and Theakston Best at the moment) and Marstons Pedigree on gravity and a good quality wine list i.e. our Pinot Grigio is Italian and not Hungarian. Our food is handmande, my business partner is a chef, and for example our steaks come from a farm three miles away.

Before we took over the pub had not done B & B for 5 years, no food for 2 years and in the last year or so only opened weekday evenings and Sunday lunchtime and the decor etc.,.. was very tired. We have done a basic refurb and clean up for now and now open from Breakfast throught to last orders. Our first major project will be to try and reinstate the garden, which has been allowed to return to nature over the last twenty years or so, in time for the Summer.

Finally any questions or anything I can do to help feel free to ask.

Kind regards,

Robin

I just thought a bit more information on location might be helpful as relatively we are not that close to Northampton.

The village of Upper Boddington is the southern most village in Northamptonshire and is on the Northamptonshire/Oxfordshire/Warwickshire borders.

We are approximately 8 miles from the M40, if travelling from the South leave the motorway at J11 (the Banbury exit) and if travelling from the North leave the motorway at J12 (the Gaydon exit).

We are also approximately 15 miles from the M1, if travelling from the south leave the motorway at J16 (the Daventry exit) and if travelling from the North leave the motorway at J18 (the Daventry DIRFT exit).

I can provide detailed directions closer to the time if needed.

Regards,

Robin

At the moment we have two double ensuite rooms (£65 including breakfast), two twins (£60 including breakfast) and a single (£40 including breakfast) - as I said we will discount those rates for forum members though, I will confirm the discount when my business partner gets back from his other pub late tomorrow or Sunday.

Robin,

Any photos to see as the website does not appear to have any [rooms/bar] Sophie and I often stay over night in places like yours and I would rather put money in a forum members pocket than some faceless chain/group.

Depends when everyone would like the first meet?

Thanks for the details Robin.

Any thoughts on the following dates? They're Fridays / Saturdays for anyone wanting to stay over.

18 / 19 February.
25 / 26 February.
4 / 5 March.
