This should have sold by now, just by reading the ad you can see a genuine enthusiast has owned this car and it has been pampered. Good luck Spike.

Not being funny but I think listing how much has been spent on it in the recent past would put a lot of people off. It is a great car and has been well looked after but who would want to spend a third of its value on it in little over a year? It also makes it seem like its a potential money pit. People want a cra thats going to be no problem and only want to hear positives in an advert. They can read all that stuff when they go through the service history and bills. ebay is a terrible place to sell a car, unless you want to get rid of something quickly with no reserve.

I would tend to agree with Nick - I think the wording might be putting people off.

Saying something like 'Maintained to a very high standard including recent service at a Maserati specialists, new cambelt, lower suspension arms, refurbished throttlebody, and full wheel alignment' would be better....getting the message accross that it's been well cared for without listing things that make no difference to the car or its value (I doubt many people care whether a used car has had a door lock repaired and microswitch replaced - most other cars they look at probably haven't need it).

Being honest I would also remove the link to this thread, and wouldn't include the car cover - probably makes no difference to its value and you can sell it separately.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your sale!

On the other hand, anyone looking to buy such a car, having done their research, will know the trouble spots on these cars and seeing that they have all been sorted should give them peace of mind. However, you might run the risk of putting off the 'oh, that looks nice, I wouldn't mind one of those' brigade. Having said that, it might be worth trying the 'maintained regardless of expense' approach and see how it goes. Again, good luck with the sale Spike.

However you may be trying to attract non-Maserati types who like most of us wanted something different.

No 1. They are buying an "old" supercar.......no bones about....they need to expect to spend much more on maintenance full stop.

No 2 Yes, emphasize the full service history...to me most important for this type of car....plus stating how these engines have no problems with higher miles.

No 3 Not keen of phrase maintained regardless of expense phrase

No 4 DO list the known problem areas and date when they were fixed, refurbed etc.........

No 5 Sit it out......

Hoping it sells in a reasonable time frame......small market out there...being it right place at right time at right price is all you can do!

Benny, I was suggesting that the advert did list the items that someone who had researched would know to check for - like work to address 'trouble spots' (such as the throttlebody) and good maintenance (such as the cambelt), but didn't list the things that make no difference to its value (such as the fact it needed a faulty door lock fixing) and didn't make it sound like a moneypit. There is a lot of variation between individual 3200/4200s and some are undoubtedly more troublesome than others - as Nick alluded to, I think there's a risk that the buyer could get a particular impression about this one. Of course, any serious buyer can email/phone and ask any further questions if there's something not listed in the advert anyway.

Nig, I agree with everything you said, I was putting my own kind of slant on it. There are many ways of skinning a cat and selling a car. I just hope the combined wisdom of the forum gets Spikes car sold!

My view for what its worth .... ebay still has the reputation for dodgy goods, so piston heads or top marques and just sit it out and the right buyer will come.......good luck......................

ps if i had the cash and room i'd buy another

This is all about sitting it out.....These cars can take an age to sell.......Not that there is anything wrong with them but it is a very small market with most punters put of by reliability and cost of ownership...The current fuel price is also going against the sale of big engine cars at the moment....I would leasve on PH as this is one of the best places to sell a car like this and get to as many Italian car shows/meets you can with a big for sale sign on it....

I agree it is just a matter of time, I tried selling my esprit for a few months and had no luck and slashing the price did not make much difference to how many people phoned! but i did have it up for sale on pistonheads from Nov to feb so not the bet months. I am afraid you may just have to wait but a good idea is to go to as many maserati or classic car meets as if people who see it is the flesh can be hooked even if they were not looking!

Hi andy its a modified s4 calypso red, s4s wheels , AP sport 350 brakes. It is in a different league to the 3200ac in the handling department but sadly even with a sport exhaust it cannot compare to the 3200 with its larini on for noise. I was meant to sell it when i bought the 3200 but i seem to have a problem selling cars.
