Yep, good point,

I am going to continue to look into this 348vs 355 and hopefully there will be a couple 355 and 348 owners at Bristol!

Not too far from you is DK engineering they have a couple of examples there that may be worth looking at just to familiarise yourself with , and they will be well up on the performance related guff too

Personally, I think a standard 355 will outhandle and outperform a standard 4200 and, for me, it probably looks better too. However, would I change mine for a 355 spyder? Absolutely not, no way. They just don't put that fizz in my knackersack.

Would agree with your comments Ian........The 355 should outhandle a 4200.....SOmething about a 355 that just looks so right from front to back....Especially the back.....

Biggest issue with 348 is the gearbox and lack of spares availability.

355s are much more common hence easier to get parts for, but the engine is the weak point. For some reason the Moronic injection uses manifold pressure to enrich the mix at larger throttle openings. This is really primative design and is the main reason (coupled with poor exhaust port gas flow) that the F355 eats exhaust manifolds.

I've had a 348 for coming onto 7 years now and I still love it.

When I first got it I remember all the bad things that were said about it. Most of it has been proven to be re-gurgitated rubbish.

Early 348's were rushed into production before they were ready which is where a lot of the bad reviews come from. Most if not all cars are now sorted.

Not much difference in the real world between it and a 355 to be honest. Brakes on both are ****.

Achillies heel on the 355 is the engine/manifolds, whilst on the 348 it is the gearbox. Best compromise is a 348 engine and a 355 gearbox.

Totally different driving experience to a 360/430. On the later cars you can cruise around easily like a sports saloon. Whereas the 348 is hardcore and you have to concentrate when driving fast.

I drive a lot in central London with it and never have a problem. All round visibility is great and I'm gliding in and out of traffic.

Parking is hard without power steering.

I get a lot more attention now on the streets than when I first got it. Probably because there are so few around in comparison to 360/430/458's and people rarely see them. Occasionally it gets mistaken for a 355 or a Testarossa.

I've driven 360's and a 430 and wouldn't swap mine for either.

Only big issue for me is the power/torque output. On trackdays it's hard to overtake 355/360 and the V12 Ferari's even though I'm right up their arses in the corners. I need more power on the straights.

I've got between 336 and 350bhp (depending on transmission loss figures) on mine. I'd like to get around 425 to 450bhp. Once I hit that I'll have my perfect Ferrari.

You certainly cant ignore the value of 348's, a good example for 30k whereas you will need 40k for a 355 and the proper gearbox. I was never the 348's biggest fan but having seen a few last year at the Ferrari Concourse meeting, i really warmed to them and they represent a great way into Ferrari Ownership. Late Mondial for 25k or a 348 for just a couple of K more ?? no brainer IMO, 348 every time.

Sorry! cant comment on the 348 but just sold my GT and bought a 355 spider. I used to use the GT as my every day runner but bought a C63 AMG and found myself using the GT less and less so after 4 and a half years (33,000 miles) it became a bit of a garage queen.
I found myself wanting something more suitable for sunny Sundays and polishing so after 8 years of Maserati ownership defected to a Ferrari. Obviously the 355 is a totally different experience it handles like it's on rails and with it's Nouvarli exhaust at 8,500 rpm it screams like an F1 car. I was concerned that unlike any Maserati i've owned (GS, QP then GT) it would get an adverse reaction from other folk but this has not been the case as I think it may be just approaching classic status. One thing I wont miss is the £50k depriciation that I suffered with the GT.
Hopefully one day Maserati will produce another true sports car and if so I will be back in a flash.
Cheers
Andy

I read some reviews on both this cars and both are quite an impressive. As per my perspectives Ferrari 348 is one of the best car in recent time. I hope that my choice is great.
