Gatwick Drones

I had a feeling that couple were innocent, they were a respectable looking couple, in a nice house/area, hard working and his employer even confirmed that he was at work, typical coppers jumping to conclusions on a mere phone call instead of doing some further checks before all the heavy handed approach and all the press coverage. Its obviously going to be mad chav activists or terror related somehow

I never thought they were guilty either. Someone told police the two of them like drones and live 5 miles from airport. Job done and perps arrested. They were banged up more than 24 hours, should be some compo there surely but i am not totally sure of the rules.

I personally was once, a long time ago, arrested for a robbery at a solicitors office in Braintree, Essex. They kept me for 24 hours but they knew after just a few hours that they had the wrong person. (I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time). They still waited until the 24 hours had elapsed until they released me. Oh, and I can still remember some of the comments from a couple of them like "nice car, how did you afford that" and the custody sergeant saying that anyone arrested is done so for a good reason and there was always "no smoke without fire".

You won't find me trusting cops nowadays I'm afraid.

tend to agree about the trust thing, couple of years back driving back from goodwood festival of speed I was stopped by coppers, they were randomly stopping a number people saying quote "you were spotted up the road drinking a bottle of beer by a colleague" which was utter bollox, basically they were hoping to actually catch someone that had possibly drunk too much at the show and just using a made up excuse to justify the stop

Can the control system not be hijacked? and flown to the channel, then splash!

In theory, possibly. But like all these things, that's a full on 'competition' between the hacker and the hackee. And it might have been flying fully autonomously (i.e. not actually accepting any control input). And how much confidence do you have that when you hack the system, it's not programmed to do something 'else'.

'What if' is a game you can play all day. The difference is we're not the ones on the spot. In many respects I agree that it would perhaps have been better to do 'something' a lot faster than appears to have been done. OTOH it's not my neck on the line should my 'something' turn out to get someone else injured or killed. Because you can bet your bottom dollar that the same people saying that they should have done this or that would be the same ones saying they should have know that the other would happen when they did.....

All I'm trying to do is make it a little more clear that all the 'simple' 'solutions' have non-zero risks of fairly serious consequences.

And on whom do the bits land, or into which jet inlets will they be sucked?

C
They have cameras, a decision can be made in the chase. So a sheep might get hit or 150,000 people can have their Xmas screwed along with the many millions in cost. Or an aircraft brought down. Surely the chase drone can just drag a net to get caught in the offending drones blades and the eject a mini parachute to bring them both down safely. We can send a man into space, land probes on mars and have vacuum cleaners with mini cyclones to suck up the dust.

Really, how hard can it be???

Was a great series in the summer about that!

Watched it, very entertaining but I'm not really sure what the point of it was, though in light of recent events they do have a trained squadron of pilots and armed spitfires ready at a moments notice.

I'd like there to be a brass bell with "see a drone ring like ****" written on it

Nothing really to do with this really but I know a guy who is unfortunate enough to have the same name and date of birth as a convicted terrorist, travel for him is a nightmare, every time he arrives at an airport and checks in armed police get called, he's tried to tell them his travel plans in advance to stop it but they're not interested , he's got an official document saying it's not him but they call the police before they read it , the actual terrorist is in prison in the US so I don't really know what they're thinking, he's escaped and hoping to walk out of the country on his own passport.

Very entertaining, but I confess I found some of it a little uncomfortable.

Technology was great, though!

MLC is best placed on this matter but I felt from the beginning that it’s something deeper than a drone.
Maybe new laws coming in re drones was set up? I dont know, like i said i await MLC to let us know
