Im back..they finally let me out to the real world..

Did i see right somewhere that someone is going over on the Friday ferry as i will be driving from Le Touquet Friday AM so good to meet up?

Also im getting a very early tunnel on the Thursday so does anyone know a decent B&B or hotel with secure parking or nice and private drive locally to folkestone- dont fancy the premier inn as ill be in the fezzer?

Hi fcz360

I stop in the Holiday inn which is no more than 10 mins away and car park is barriered and cctv. A lot of guys stop there so not sure if it is full. I am on 0750 train with a mix of motors - Maser, lotus, jag, tvr etc. and a dirty great big calor gas navara for the team kit.

We are going with a group of 20 as we always do. Setting out Wednesday morning, channel tunnel than a quick blast down to Le Mans. Being "hardcore" and "tight" we will be camping in Houx Annexe. If anyone is around feel free to pop in and say hello, this years fleet will include QP IV (probably), Fezza 355 Spyder, Porsche Boxster and a number of 105 Alfas - Bertone Coupe & Spiders.

We advise you to keep to your booked departure time and do not arrive early or late, during this busy period, as we will not have space to accommodate you. You should therefore plan to
check-in at least 30 minutes prior and no more than 2 hours before your booked
departure time.
Passport and documentation

All passengers (including any pets that are travelling with you) will need a valid passport or ID card. A driving licence is not a valid document for travelling abroad. Please ensure you have your passport or ID card within easy reach and out of its wallet before approaching border controls.
In-car breathalyser

On 1 July 2012, a new legislation came into force in France. All drivers of a motorised land vehicle, excluding mopeds, must possess a digital breathalyser or an unused (and immediately available) breathalyser kit which conforms to NF standards. This rule equally applies to vehicles registered outside France. Only vehicles fitted with Breathalyser Interlocks are excluded. Failure to carry a breathalyser in your vehicle will NOT incur a fine.

Be fully prepared. Call into the AA travelshop, in our Folkestone Passenger Terminal Building, for all compulsory or recommended car equipment required for driving abroad.
24-hour Customer Information Line

Before setting off on your journey please call our 24 hour pre-recorded Customer Information Line on +44 (0) 8444 63 00 00 or visit www.eurotunnel.com/latest which will give you the latest travel information for both the Folkestone and Calais Terminals.

We look forward to welcoming you on board and wish you a pleasant journey with us

We went through this before our last MC trip, which was just before the legislation was to come in to force. There are kits, or packs of 3 or 4 breathalysers and you have to carry a minimum of two I think, so if you have 2 and use one, you are travelling illegally, or so they say but will not fine you, how does that work? Unless the Police force you to buy one at £50 each...???

It's just french double Dutch; they don't fine you but they'll probably impound your car. There will be sometning lurking in the paperwork otherwise, why make it legislation?

The last I heard it was passed as law, but they put off enforcing it as they were not able to have enough kits in stores for everyone to buy them, so it will come into effect later this year...but that may have changed. I have a pack in my glovebox for whenever I'm in France...just in case.

this apparent law is bizarre...can anyone clarify an "official" interpretation - i'm curious as there have been so many versions!!

You can get the disposable ones from any of the E.Leclerc supermarkets for €1 each.

It appears it has not been enforced but you at that price you might as well carry a pair.

You also need a hi vis jacket, in the car, not in the boot, a bulb kit, warning triangle and a first aid kit (advisory). Light deflectors do not work on the coupe/xenon lights so no need to bother and you need a GB sticker if you don't already have one on your number plate.

Things you dont want to get caught with are radar detectors (€2k fine) and if you get stopped speeding over 100mph, you would be wise to inform them that you dont own the car, its in your wife's name (they wont check as they dont have access to DVLA despite what you hear.

If you get done at over 220kph/135mph and you admit to owning your car, it will be impounded and you will be sent home and await a court date. You will incur £k's in impound fees plus a massive fine. If the car is worth less than £10k it worth considering just leaving it there and writing it off and never returning.

If the car is not in your name, they can only fine you.
