Malc, you will have to bear with me and Andy, we love our Lotus and BMW M cars. Sorry if this thread has gone off topic, most of them do. :D:D:D

Hey Adam,

You've not met me yet......

When I was your age (not patronising in any way) I loved Lotii and still have a huge respect but Colin Chapman was "the man"!. I was always tall and make myself fit into my cars especially with a crash hat on, but well over a quarter century and several stone heavier I simply doubt I could get out if I got in! It's tongue in cheek..........Andy has known me a while and knows where I am coming from....and I have been grateful for his buddies presence to make up numbers at track days...... even though theyare iritating quick and corner on rails!

By the way I have owned and loved an E36 M3..........................but despite thei teutonic excellence they have no soul!

I hope to meet you soon Mlalc, Andy has told me your a passionate and a great person to be around so i look forward to meeting you in the near future.
Totally agree with you about Colin Chapman. BMW's have no soul, i find that hard to digest, the E36 was never considered the best M3 yet i have always been a fan as it was the car that i wanted in banana yellow when i was a nipper i personally think the E90 series is the worst M3. Andy said that he thought the CSL did have soul, he is probably right as it was a superb car. I like to think the E30 M3 has soul as i desperately want one, one of the best cars ever to come from germany and arguably the best M car ever.

Are they still making S1 cars?...I see a 2010 one on a 60 plate with 440 miles for sale...
this is an S2, isn't it?

View attachment 4969

S1's were made from 1999 to 2000 - In 2001 the S2 came out and in 2004, Ithink, the rover engine went and the Toyota engine came in.

On top of the ones Adam has mentioned they also made a Sport 190 which was made by the motorsport devision. These are rare and a bit of a beast.

Andy i am sure the S1 was made from 1996, the press cars were on a N and P regestration, and i thought all the S2 cars had the toyota engine?

Sport 190, you will be lucky to see one of those.

The purists choice is the S1. They do have different handling characteristics to the S2 and are a lot more bare inside. Quite a few S2 owners have "upgraded" to an S1 on that basis. Interestingly bigger power makes little difference in terms of over all performance for the enthusiastic ameteur, I can keep up and or be on the back bumper of 240bhp Super charged Exiges along B roads, in fact on a recent airfield activity day I lapped the circuit more than a second quicker than a SC Exige.

As said before, I love my Elise. It very rarely has a roof on it regardless of the weather, I've taken the back window out for a bit of extra heat in the winter (heat comes from the engine behind you of course) and extra sound track and engine smells. Its a very raw experience :)

They are easy to play with too. Mine now has:
Hurricane induction kit
Bigger throttle body
4-2-1 Stainless manifold
De-Cat pipe
Free flow sports back box
Ali bell floating discs all round
Racing brake fluid
Braided hose brake lines
Updated suspension
Short throw quick shift
Quicker steering rack
4 point harnesses
Extended 4 vane diffuser and undertray
And most important of all, and worth at least 30bhp... Viper Stripes!

There's loads more cosmetic stuff that's been done and a fair bit of maintenance too. There's an ever growing list of stuff that I'd like to do it as well. The problem is when you get the bug!

Always happy to offer passenger rides to anyone near by.

Adam, the first S2's had the K, I think they only changed to the Toyota to get it into the US.

Had another two quotes today...

Mallary - Wait for it..........................£7300 plus VAT.............Bloody ****...

This is from Combe..

Many thanks for your enquiry and please find details on exclusive track hire below:-

All cars using the track must be road going and silenced to 100 dba. We run a static test measured at 0.5 metres at 3/4 max revs.

Track use is from 9am-5pm with a break for lunch. All cars will be tested before being allowed out on track.

Track is 1.85 miles long and I have attached our circuit map plus I have also attached some images for another building we have here on site which can be used separately for register and welcome briefing for your participants. This building is two-storey and overlooks the start/finish line and downstairs can be laid out in classroom style with briefing boards etc… and upstairs can be used for visitors/participants and you can also arrange to have a limited amount of catering available ie bacon rolls with hot refreshments together with cold drinks and afternoon tea with biscuits. With regard to hot food at lunchtime this will need to be in the main Tavern Clubhouse building.

Costs are as follows:-

'3' Car Day - This will allow you to have no more than '3' cars on track at any one time - £3,800 + VAT
'4' Car Day – This will allow you to have no more than '4' cars on track at any one time - £4,600 + VAT
'6' Car Day – Again no more than '6' on track at any one time - £5,700 + VAT
'12' Car Day - This is max no of cars allowed on track at any one time - £6,700+ VAT

Although the above prices are what we call “book” prices but we can be flexible on the costs so if could let us know roughly how you would like to run the day and possible number of cars to expect we can then perhaps look at the costs for you but alternatively it might be an idea to come down for a site visit and at the same time meet up with our MD, Graham Marshallsay, to discuss your requirements etc.

All prices include all necessary staff ie marshals, paramedic, rescue vehicle and a track manager. Catering is separate but the Tavern will be open early in the morning for breakfasts, drinks, and for you to use for registration etc... If you require a set menu for the day or wish to discuss catering options then please contact Jacqui Brenton at Tavern Events on 07887 775161 or jacqueline.brenton@yahoo.co.uk

If you require experienced ARDS Registered Instructors then we do have “pool” of instructors which we use for our racing school and track days here and who are all highly experienced and have raced or are still racing at Castle Combe and they can be used to carry out drivers briefings, sighting laps and also one to one tution.

Hope this information helps but If you have any other questions then please contact me again. You mentioned possibly using track in May and only dates I have available are Mon 9th and Tues 10th May. We hope to welcome you to Castle Combe Circuit this year.

Andy those prices are outrageous, can't you remind them there's a recession on!?

Does the price go up when you mention the marque?
May be you should tell them that we're from the fiat panda club and then on the day claim that the pandas broke down and we had to bring our other Italian cars?

I nearly fell off my chair when Mallary told me ther price...Shocking...

I know Llandow is small and a bit of a trek but last year we paid £2500 and it was still loads of fun............How can they charge that much.

Worth trying Snetterton Andy, they are under construction at the moment with new additions to the track , but will or maybe taking bookings as completion is very soon , bet they will be competitive as its a complete new restart

That's why I canned the proposed track day I was hoping to organise on MF...............Goodwood wanted £6,250 plus vat.......£7,500 with £1,250 going to the exchequer along with the duty etc on the fuel

Certainly Goodwood seem to be having it their way as there were not that many dates available apart from March and August!

Track days have become very popula.

Llandow is fun but small

Also there are some quite cheap track events available through commercial organisers and charity events so maybe we should scour the net, select one ortwo and all book up together?

Andy , presently waiting for prices from Snetterton , they will be completing and open for trackdays from middle of March , hopefully they will be coming back with various options , as they have three tracks available , though the new 300 longer faster circuit seems good depending on price , might give us the oppurtunity to open these buggers right up legally that is heheh i'll let you know the outcome
