Loz, you could be on to something with this idea as my clutch has developed a noise (somewhere between an owl hoot and a squeel) on pull away! It is not every time and is present when the clutch is cold in particular and points towards the bearing problem identified in other threads... I know it will need a clutch at some point and this is nagging at me to not do track days yet. I like your thinking - let it go out in style; if it's going to let go at all it would be on a track...

I hope its a multi car transporter?

Thankfully thats not your clutch , its your spiggot bearing , so no real worries its £15 to buy , and not absolutely crucial to be replaced soon as , they last for years like it , just terribly annoying/embarresing at times , worth doing when the clutch needs replacing or if your on a warranty and its free

Cheers Loz, I'm assuming that sits behind the clutch though; meaning to replace it the whole lot comes out?

The car had the clutch replaced under warranty at about 15k & I believe this was an upgraded unit but they would not have changed this bearing at that time for sure... it is up to 47k now so clutch is probably due in next 10k anyway. I'm prepairing myself for the innevitable £ hit...

I'll pick this up on the appropriate thread as I don't want to hijack this thread!

Great, did you have spare plates or was Miles passing his to you?

P

Yes ive still got Urby's old clutch , tho there's still plenty of meat on it , it was only 40% worn on the sd2/3 readout , measuring it with the vernier gauge against factory spec thickness , shows its only around 15% worn

I can only quote what i have personally found Frank, its a given that the electronic readout is only a guide and not exact science due to how it was set up previous occasions, my own experience on the GS was that of OCT 2009 at 28,500miles my clutch was deemed to be 100% worn by DL Swindon but no slippage noted , i have since happily covered another 16K miles the last 3K of which i have experienced some progressive slippage with hard accelleration , so make of that what you will , but in my book it equates to an error of around 30% perhaps built in as a safety measure , rather too large safety margin in my book

Still we will await the outcome when the clutch is finally replaced together with its adjacent components , interesting to find out with the other parts have exessive wear due to the fact ive taken down to the wire so to speak

Just to repeat an earlier post of mine on SD3 readout P...
Should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt, from my experience, it is approximate at best.
Bought the QP 19 March 09, 36,949 Miles, Serviced by HR Owen, SD3 clutch wear 43%
Had DBWEM fitted by Roberts Aerospace, 03 October 2009, 42,375 Miles, SD2 clutch wear 46%
Major Service, Grimaldi Engineering, 26 November 2009, 43,426 Miles, SD3 clutch wear 17%
Minor Service, Grimaldi Engineering, 04 December 2010, 52,319 miles, SD3 clutch wear 21%
Regards,
Enzo.

Exactly Enzo , proof of the pudding
Me thinks the FI sensor must have been knocked , or accidently adjusted electronically, measuring with a vernier is more acccurate but impossible to get at the inner friction plate with it in situ tho some specially adapted vernier callipers could do the trick

the readouts on the diognostics can be incorrect, i was speaking to a technian from graypaul once nd he was telling me they have never changed the clutch on a 360cs.

I think I'm inclined to run it till it goes and be prepaired to change a gouged flywheel if it needs it...

Just been catching up with this track-day / Lotus / clutch thread :thumb: and I for one would be interested in looking further afield. Dan's already suggested Abbeville, but does anyone know of any other options in France / Belgium?

I'd rather spend some money to make a weekend of it rather than lining the pocket of some track-day profiteer.

Other than that... count me in for the small and bijou Llandow.

This will test the commitment..............

So how many of us are there really interested in a track day and how fast can everyone get it together?

Goodwood offer an Off Peak rate..........................however this is before mid Feb and after late November....................so the weather could be 3 inches of rain, 4 inches of snow, Ice or Brilliant sunshine..................our risk naturally!

The rate is £3,935 plus vat £4,722.........plus intructors as required so if we get 20 cars this is £236 each or 25 cars a very reasonabl £189 each

The only Saturday is the 5th February and I have asked them to hold it for me.................However this is only three weeks away so it requires immediate commitment from everyone if it is to happen.......decision time this weekend?

Is it feasible? What say you?

Ok Guys not enough warning then?

It had to be spontaneous to get the ptice, thanks to thse who did express support and sorry to let you down but it has proved not feasible.

This event is also canned!
